He was competing in the able bodied Masters 2 raw benchpress at a bodyweight class of up to 56kg. Our competition plan played out perfectly. Weighing in at 52.6kg he opened with his highest ever competition opener of a 95kg press which not only set a new British record but took a world record. He then went on to lift 97.5kg (his previous competition best in Moscow), then bettered this on his 3rd lift with a 100kg lift. He was then able to have a 4th lift to try and beat his new world record and he did it in style with 102.5kg lift which beat the previous 5 year old world record set by a Ukrainian Athlete by 12.5kg!

Rich aims to do the hatrick this year by taking the British, European and World title in 2018. So he is now in training for the first of these, the British championship at the NEC Birmingham in May. (he currently hold 3 British, 1 European and 2 world records now as well as being 2017 Masters 2 raw benchpress 52kg class British and World champion.)

Rich was accompanied not only by his wife and daughter but our own PT Adam who threw himself into the event by taking Rich through his warm up lifts and passed the bar out on platform too. (he even got asked to help knee wrap one of the other lifters and chalk some backs! )
